corn day at the homestead

can you imagine the horror that i felt when i was on the way to do corn and realized that i forgot my camera? i had a lot to get together and that was one thing that didn't make it to the van and i was so disappointed. :( but, anyway...we were invited up to my cousins farm today to do corn. i was to go a few weeks ago, but with everything happening, i had to miss the BIG corn day...where they did over 350 quarts! so, today was like a little make up day. first we husked the corn, then cooked it outside, then cut and creamed it, then bagged it. we did about 45 quarts, which took 6 of us about 5 hours (with a lunch break!). then i came to find out that it was all for me...i was so thankful and enjoyed having this time with my extended family. there are things that remind me of fun times in my childhood and "corn days" are one of them! it is so fun to be a part of them even when i am older and to feel like i have that tradition in my life. so, we are going back next week to can peaches...and i will have my camera!

oh- and while i was working on corn, the boys had a great time with the other kids! the played with cats, saw a bunny, dug a hole, and did some occasional helping with the husking. during our lunch break, adin had an unfortunate run in with a bee that stung him 4 times. he did really well with it but did require benadryl, tylenol, and a baking soda remedy. then they rode in the back of a truck (which means NO car seat- yikes) out to the pasture to feed the husks to the cows. there were so many new experiences for them...i can't believe i didn't have the camera. maybe i will try to recreate them next week...minus the bee sting.
