peachy day

as promised, i remembered my camera today when i went to the farm to can peaches! the boys were more familiar with what we were doing today, so they got up and around and had all kinds of plans for the day. below is the play house that my cousin, galen, is building...they were hoping that the slide would be done, but it wasn't yet...maybe next time! i think that they had plans to get it done for him today.

the girls got right to work! this is what it looks like...there are a few steps to getting the peaches ready...someone takes the seeds out, several people peel, someone cuts them into whatever form you want them to be canned in. i was a cutter here with my sister, ronita. it is cool because everyone helps everyone with their batches and it gets done so fast!
here adin and toby are helping my uncle amos with washing peaches...which you can imagine ended up in two wet boys. but at least they were helping!
toby took this picture and i was very impressed with his creativity. if you are a "peeler"...this is what you would be looking at!
oh yes...there is proof that i worked! how fun to be out on a gorgeous day with your family just spending time getting great food ready for your family to eat through the winter. it reminds me a lot of grandma to be up at the farm. she certainly would have been there with us and she is greatly missed on days like this. but, we are making memories with our families now too...and i am fortunate to be a part of them and have the boys there with me.
picnic lunch! it was hard to make them stop to eat, but they shoveled a few bites in before they were off again...we took a little longer!

my cousin, galen, coming in for lunch...from doing something with corn?! i don't know what all of that equipment does, but it was a big thing and it makes the corn into food for the cows.

this is the 54 jars for me and ronita...we did another 54 after this.

mom got there as we were finishing and the boys were wanting to "help" a lot...mostly by eating as many peaches as they could fit in their mouths. so, she took them for a walk and they got to ride in the big corn machine that galen was driving. adin was very excited and told us several times that he rode in a "john deere"...not sure how he knew that, but his friend cole loves tractors and i am guessing that he knew because it was green and yellow!

the boys were hot and dirty when we got home, so we did a bath in the sprinkler...a fun end to a great day. thanks again for having us...looking forward to the next gathering to do whatever it is that we do next!
