i read about this project in one of my parenting magazines today...so, we decided to give it a shot. you take broken crayons and melt them down into shapes for kids to reuse. so, we started by taking the paper off of all of the broken crayons. toby did about 1, but adin stuck with me longer!
but in the end...it ended up being me finishing this part...
we put the broken pieces into a mini muffin pan and then into the oven at 350 for about 5 minutes...then they looked like this:
within about 15 minutes, we were able to pop them out and use them. they are pretty cool!
don't ask about the goggles...they wear them a lot?!
now i am trying to figure out what to melt them in that would make them long and thin like a crayon...any ideas?

I knew someone who melted the cryons on the stove than used candy molds for the "new" ones.
