the summer of new (and/or the return of) experiences continues today! so far, i have:- frozen 2 boxes of blueberries
- frozen 35 quarts of corn
- canned 27 jars of peaches
- made 8 quarts of spaghetti sauce
and today...the newest thing to try: preparing and freezing chickens! my cousin raised the chickens and had extra to share, so my sister and i both bought 6 chickens. they came to us in pieces...with bone and skin...not usually how i buy them. so, we started our by getting all of the "junk" pieces in the 4 largest pots that we could find to cook them down for stock. then we worked cutting and bagging all of the good pieces to freeze them. overall, a pretty easy process and a nice chunk out of our next many weeks of shopping! so, after all of the work, we had homemade chicken corn soup with a jar of our peaches for dinner...followed up with an "angel lush" birthday cake for my sister. i think that this could be a repeatable activity...if for nothing else than having fun in the kitchen with my family.
